Furry Friday!

Hi all,
Sorry for the late post, work has been crazy! But now I present: FUDGE!!I may have posted him before, and maybe it's just my pregnancy craving for chocolate, but I couldn't resist this guy. I mean, how many people go to great lengths to get a pure bred chocolate lab and here you have one, for free! Who also really needs a good home! A win win? I think so :)

Here is his write up:
It has been said that there are basically two types of Labrador Retrievers; Food Labs and Ball Labs. Fudge is definitely a Ball Lab. He will play catch with you all day if your arm holds out. His energy is boundless and his enthusiasm will bring a smile to your face. He's not all play; he has good manners also. He will sit on command and give you his paws, as long as you promise to play ball afterwards. He's strong and energetic, and will require a firm hand, but he will make somebody a playful and loving companion.

So come on, it will be a gorgeous weekend and you can take him to the Katie Sampson Lacrosse Festival this weekend and show him off!!

Mr. Pit and I are headed to the lacrosse tournament to see my old Alma mater play and watch my younger brother coach- GO SHIPLEY!!

Then we're doing some last minute Little Pit errands and then going out to dinner for my Mom's birthday at The Palm, yum!!

Then I have my friend K's baby shower on Sunday and Mr. Pit's parents are coming down for dinner on Sunday night, so it will be a busy and fun weekend.

Have a great weekend!

Breed Specific Legislation...and why it DOESN'T WORK!

I found this article on USA Today over the weekend and it rung SO true that I just had to post it here again.

Most of you know that Lil' Pup is a Pitbull, or at least mostly Pitbull mixed with something else. Part of the reason he was so hard for Main Line Animal Rescue to place him in a home was that as soon as his breed was brought up, people walked away from his kennel and further down the line, looking for a 'nice dog'. Believe me, Mr. Pit and I would have NEVER brought home a NOT NICE dog, but people have it in their heads that all pits are bad dogs. I've said it before and I'll say it till I'm blue in the face. There are no bad dogs. There are bad owners. Owners who have NO idea how to train a dog, and show no interest in doing so, they simply want this animal and that's as much as they've thought about it.

Training a dog is HARD WORK. No one tells you any differently when you bring an infant home, you have to change a TON of diapers, teach them how to sleep and eat and it's a full two to three years before the little darlings start going to the bathroom like grownups, but you don't see anyone returning their infant because they had an accident! People return puppies to breeders and rescues ALL the time because they are not potty trained and they can't teach them how...well, what if YOUR parents returned YOU because you weren't potty trained, it took you multiple years to get it right! No one smacked you when you wet the bed, no one threw you out the backdoor when you peed your pants...how is that fair?! You have to TEACH your dog how to live in the house. You have to TEACH your dog how to play with other dogs, be nice to kids, not bite the mailman...YOU have to TEACH. I know, it's a crazy concept, dogs should just 'get it' right? NOPE. They don't. YOU are the human and they are the animal. It is your job to teach.

Anyways, on to the article, I have cut and pasted below. I love it, and the fact that it comes from a Vet, I think it's even better. Enjoy.

At the outset, let me state that I am unwaveringly in favor of gun control measures designed very specifically to keep guns out of the paws of our country's criminal element.

With that in mind, it seems reasonable to assume I'd be blanketly supportive of more restrictive gun control measures. And yes, when it comes to confirmed criminals, I'm all for keeping arms as far from them as possible. Surely we can justify that as a penalty for their offenses.

But recently, I tuned into arguments put forth by those who convene inWashington, D.C., today to march in support of gun rights. In so doing, I couldn't help but observe the almost identical nature of arguments made by those who support the preservation of basic gun rights and those who oppose breed-specific legislation such as the pit bull ban we have here in Miami-Dade County.

Icky though that may have sounded to a leftish-wing animal lover who would never deign to keep a firearm at home, my individual rights-supporting side won out. I got the message — part of it, anyway.

Why?

As a veterinarian, Miami-Dade resident and former pit bull owner, I've been a close watcher of breed-specific legislation. And consequently — let me speak plainly now — I hate these laws.

They are based on:

• Biological misinformation (pit bulls' jaws don't "lock").

• Lack of attention to dog-bite statistics (breed bans have not curbed dog bites).

• A profound lack of attention to reality (pit bulls are even more popular now that they're banned).

• A failure to recognize the obvious (those who want aggressive dogs will raise them, regardless of breed).

And these laws are so arbitrarily enforced that those who would socialize their dogs properly in park settings are predominantly targeted over those who would wreak violent havoc with their (mostly hidden) dogs.

These myopic, tyranny-of-the-majority-enacted bans are fear-based. Aimed at the lower end of the socioeconomic scale, they have no regard for science or public welfare — just for the kind of political expediency that prompts municipal leaders to get their names attached to a proposal that any safety-loving voter stands prepared to swallow whole.

But then, I guess it'll always be sexier to ban something than to actually work hard to deliver intelligent laws — or to enforce them.

OK, rant over.

But perhaps you see my point now. The ban on pit bull dogs (among other breeds), as for weapons, would seem anathema to our national values given that the Second Amendment is right there with all responsible dog owners: You can't take away my dog based on her breed any more than you can take away my revolver just because bad people tend to use a .357 Magnum. The law doesn't allow you to make those decisions for me. Not if I haven't given it just cause to discriminate against me.

Sure, the problem with the Second Amendment is that our forefathers never foresaw a nation of AK-47-wielding street thugs terrorizing common citizens with their drive-bys, or an urban culture where spike-collared, muscle-bound dogs (of all breeds) straining against their chains was considered the epitome of street-sexy.

As a mother and a frequent animal-bite observer, of course I'd like more laws targeting these evildoing, dog-wielding creeps (not least because the dogs suffer, too). But am I willing to accept the consequences of such laws? Not when they unfairly target the dogs instead of the people. What we need is not more laws crafted to punish the dogs. Rather, we simply need to enforce existing laws to punish animal cruelty offenders and those whose dogs commit violent acts.

As with guns, the push should be to punish the criminal, not his weapon, and not to penalize those who would choose to peacefully keep a dog of any particular breed.

Now, don't condemn me for equating pit bulls with guns. As a former pit bull owner (and a defender of dogs in general), I don't typically see dogs in this light at all. But that doesn't alter the fact that those who would ban them do. And with that recognition comes the obvious conclusion:

If you respect an individual's right to bear arms, whether for protection, sport or collector's obsession, then any censure of an individual breed of dog (ostensibly for its inherent danger to the population at large) deserves the same broad protections — along with the kind of enhanced enforcement of crimes that result from their abuse.

I think this article is well written, precise and exactly to the point. I love the line about punishing the user of the weapon, not the weapon itself. Such a good point that not many people think about.

You all know my stance on rescue dogs in general, and I am not saying everyone has to go out and adopt a Pitty, because they aren't the right dog for everyone, neither is a Golden Retriever or a Chihuahua.

What I am saying, is that if every dog owner was a RESPONSIBLE dog owner, we wouldn't have half the problems that we have with Pitbulls getting blamed for every dog bite you hear about. I am sure there are some mean and nasty Pitbulls out there that aren't socialized and would harm a child, a mailman, another dog and all sorts of things.

Another thing I am sure about though is that there are quite a few Pitbulls, Lil' Pup included who would rather snuggle with you on the couch or take a nice long walk through Valley Forge Park before they would want to get in a fight or harm a child. I also know that Mr. Pit and I have to CONSTANTLY remind Lil' Pup that WE are the Alphas in the house. EVERY morning we remind him that we feed him, we let him out and it is up to him and his behavior of how smoothly these things occur. 95% of the time he is great about it, but we still have to teach everyday. It isn't his fault he pushes the boundaries, it's what he does, it is OUR responsibility to confirm those boundaries and reteach him when he thinks he has successfully moved one.

Ok, this is now officially the longest blog post ever.

Have a great week!! xoxo Mrs. Pit

Furry Friday! Meet Driver!!

Will you take a look at this handsome boy? Main Line Animal Rescue thinks he's only about 4 or 5 months old and what a cutie! Those big puppy paws just crack me up, and those little spots are just to die for!!

Here is his write up, and I agree with them, this guy will be adopted quickly, so get out there!!

Driver is one of the cutest puppies we've had in quite some time - truly - and despite his beginning of being abandoned, he really is one of the sweetest dogs we have! He has this great coat of white with some red/brindle patches and he has the most beautiful amber colored eyes - they are really gorgeous and of course he uses them to his best advantage - wooing the volunteers to take him out "just one more time" or "just one more minute of snuggling". He quite young - we are estimating 4-5 mos old and we've all been trying to figure out his breed makeup - he's tall and lean but has a bit of a boxer face but not the jowls... regardless of breed he is a truly wonderful dog. He loves other dogs, he's a bit submissive with them now but really is coming out of his shell and learning that other dogs are fun and he's learning how to play a bit more now too! He LOVES people and can't get enough attention, snuggling, kissing - he even tries to get on everyone's laps which is proving difficult given he's a pretty big puppy! We know a puppy this great won't last long here - so if you are interested in Driver I'd hurry up and get an application in to come meet him!

Plus, as a golf aficionado (or at least one who appreciates a good walk around the course trying to find my ball for 18 holes) I can't help but love the name :)

Mr. Pit and I are out to dinner and a movie tonight with friends, and then the rest of the weekend we're going to play by ear. The weather isn't supposed to be great, so tending to our vegetable garden isn't exactly the most appealing thing to do while it's in the 50's and rainy, though one of these weekends we need to get in there, clean it out and till it up. One day!

Hope everyone has a great weekend! Go adopt an animal, or two, they need you!!

Furry Friday- BROTHERS!!

GAH!!! These puppies are too freaking cute for words, and the fact that they haven't been adopted out yet ASTOUNDS me...look at these guys! This is Backswing and Backspin and they are some of the newer residents of Main Line Animal Rescue.

They are a mere 5 months old and are a mix of St. Bernard and something equally adorable.

Could you imagine the fun you would have with these two in your house?! TOTALLY my dream dogs (did I just type that?! Sorry Little Pup!)

It will take ALL my will power (and the knowledge that Little Pit is due to arrive in 21 scant days) to NOT pick up these cute puppies this weekend, but YOU totally should!!!

Just click HERE to find out more info on these two and lots of other dogs and cats that need homes from Main Line Animal Rescue.

Mr. Pit and I have some really fun plans this weekend, first is dinner at Flemings tonight with 2 sets of friends, and then my BFF's engagement party is Saturday night!! Sunday looks like it is going to be nice and relaxed, and we are really looking forward to it.

I also just realized that I only have 2 more weeks of work left before Little Pit comes! I am taking the last week of April off as vacation because I am terrified to go into labor at work and feel like I should be home resting and getting last minute things done. Then we'll just have to see if the little one comes on time or not :)

I hope you all have great weekends!

Furry Friday!

So, you all know how I rave about Main Line Animal Rescue, and the fact that there are PURE BRED DOGS at EVERY rescue in this country...our girl Glo is a shining example of that.

Do you realize that some people pay THOUSANDS of dollars for these dogs from breeders? And that little Glo here could be yours for $0...that's right, they will GIVE her to you if you can show you can provide her with a healthy, happy home, which I am sure all of you can.

I also have a soft spot for Shih Tzu's since my beloved Grandmother had them her whole life, and poor Puddle (her latest one) STILL looks for her everyday even though she passed almost 9 months ago.... Anyways...even though these dogs are small, they pack a whopping personality in a tiny little body and they are PERFECT lap dogs (even though all 70lbs of Little Pup thinks he is a perfect lap dog too!).

Here is her write up:
Happy, hearty, and loving, that's our Shih Tzu gal, Glo. If you know the breed, one hardly needs to elaborate on their virtues, but if you haven't been fortunate enough to experience the Shih Tzu, you are in for a treat. Beautiful Glo is just waiting for that special person she can call her own. Glo is bound to have many admirers so get to the head of the line and fill out your application today!

What a cutie to go adopt this fabulous weekend. As always, click HERE to go to Main Line Animal Rescue's website to go check out Glo and tons of other animals that desperately need forever homes.

With 2 weeks to go until Easter this weather couldn't be better, and I'm really hoping for a similar day come April 4th! Easter is one of my favorite holidays besides Christmas and I am really hoping for a warm day this year (last year it was sunny but freezing!).

Mr. Pit and I are headed up to New York this weekend to see his parents, and my amazing in-laws are throwing us a baby shower while we're up there. I am really looking forward to it as we haven't seen them since Christmas which was a while ago! We also plan on hitting Target on the way back since we don't have a crib mattress yet, and I can't get the crib set up with out at least that! I am also dying to check out the Liberty of London stuff there as well.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Furry Friday!

Meet Mick! I thought in honor of upcoming St. Patrick's day I would show off a dog with some Irish heritage...but in this case I just chose one with an Irish name :)

Mick is a Chow-Chow and look how handsome he is?! I love the lion-like mane that Chows have, too freaking cute. Don't you just want to snuggle with him, what a cozy buddy he would make!

Here's his write up:

Mick is a Chow Chow, one of the oldest known breeds of dogs. He is somewhat smaller than the breed standard and has a reddish/cinnamon colored coat with a "lion-like" mane around his very handsome face. Mick always looks like he is smiling and often shows off his pearly white teeth and "blue" tongue. He is very nice to walk and he rarely pulls on the leash. He has a hoarse bark that sounds like he's whispering secrets to you. Unfortunately, Mick had a severe flea allergy when he came to MLAR and needed a VERY short haircut to facilitate his healing. Once his hair grows back, Mick is going to be an even more popular guy. In the meantime, I bet he'd be willing to wear a very stylish coat. (Martha Stewart has a number of Chows and often features them on her show.) Beat the rush and fill out an application for Mick today.

What a catch this boy seems like, click HERE to go to Main Line Animal Rescue's website to check out all the great animals they have there that desperately need a home. With spring coming up in 8 short days, don't you need a new friend for the new season and beyond?!

The weather is going to be yucky on the Main Line this weekend, so we might put off picking up the glider for the baby's room. We're going to play it by ear because I really want the whole room complete by the end of the weekend, but I'm not going to trudge out in an awful nor'easter to get a newly upholstered chair.

Other than the weather I am really looking forward to the weekend, and wish everyone the best!

xoxo Mrs. Pit

Furry Friday!

Morning all! Meet Sissy! Sissy is a female lab mix who was rescued from the streets and brought to MLAR for recuperation. She is doing really well per her write up, and desperately wants a home so she can improve even more! Plus, she's only about 2 years old, which makes her even more appealing if you want a dog that's already housebroken...and who doesn't?

Here is her write up:

Sissy is a gentle lab mix who was rescued from the streets of Philadelphia. When she first came to us she was very skinny and very scared - she didn't have an easy life you could tell. But thanks to the patience of the volunteers and staff, she has come out of her shell already and learned to trust humans again. She now walks proudly around the farm with her head held high and her tail up. It was a wonderful transformation to watch and to see how resilient dogs truly are. She is a young girl, maybe 2 years old, and when she gets in the field you realize her age since she runs SO fast and all over the fields. She is such fun to watch! If you'd like to continue on with the progress we've made with Sissy please fill out an application and come meet this cute girl!

How great does she sound? Click HERE for more information on how to adopt Sissy or any of the other animals at Main Line Animal Rescue!

Sorry for not posting more this week, my schedule has been a bit off with Mr. Pit out of the country, but he gets back Sunday morning and I can't wait to go pick him up at the airport.

Today I actually have a half day so I can go home and meet the insurance adjuster since we had a leak in our roof/ceiling/window area during the last storm and we need to get it repaired before the big spring rain storms come in. Then tomorrow I plan on heading out to the outlets in Lancaster to see if I can find a white bookcase for Little Pit's room. It's amazing how such a little piece of furniture can be so expensive and elusive! But, I am determined to find one that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and it still cute enough to hold all the fun picture books we got!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Furry Friday- Meet Gumdrop!

I mean, would you just look at this girl? And those eyes?! How can you NOT want to adopt this GORGEOUS PURE BRED Black Lab...come on now!!!

Gumdrop was rescued from a puppy mill after giving birth to multiple litters, Main Line Animal Rescue REALLY saved her life. Her write up says she has gotten over a lot of her shyness, which is great, so won't you adopt her so she can really flourish?!

Nine out of ten Volunteers agree that Gumdrop has the most beautiful face on a black Lab at MLAR. (The tenth was holding a black lab puppy at the time of the survey and was overcome by cuteness.) She simply melts your heart when you look into those warm, chocolate eyes. Gumdrop also has an equally beautiful personality. She is well mannered and walks nicely on a leash without pulling. She gets along with other dogs and currently shares her kennel with two smaller dogs. She has made tremendous progress overcoming her shyness which developed during her puppy mill days. Gumdrop is very affectionate and trusting with her regular volunteers. She is looking for a joyful home full of patience, love, and kindness. Do you need more beauty at home? If so, please fill out an application for Gumdrop today.

As always, Click HERE to go to Main Line Animal Rescue's website and check out all the animals they have for adoption. It's supposed to be a great weekend here weather wise, you should go adopt an animal to make it perfect!

In other news, Mr. Pit and I had a great time in Vegas this past weekend and I am really happy we decided to 'Babymoon' and get away for the last time before our life is turned upside down come the end of April. We went to the Hoover Dam, saw the baby tigers at Mirage and spent a morning oohing and aahing at the sharks at Mandalay Bay. We also ate at some AMAZING restaurants, but I'll blog this weekend to tell you more about it, and I'll post my pictures of the tigers and lions!

Have a great weekend!

Furry Friday! Meet Butterscotch!

Sorry for the delay in the Furry Friday post, today was a crazy day at work and Mr. Pit and I just got back from a fun Thai dinner, so now I'm watching the Olympic Opening Ceremonies and ready to blog!

Meet Butterscotch! She is a female yellow lab, pure bred and everything!! Just read her write up, you'll want to go out and get her ASAP!!!

Butterscotch is a petite yellow lab who came to us from a commercial breeding facility. Don't tell her that - she has no idea that she should be nervous! She loves all the volunteers and especially her roommate, a sweet foxhound. They are adorable outside in the play yards, they run around and then they come over for some snuggles. Butterscotch even does the "army crawl" sometimes where she'll start to lay down and then kind of crawl with her body sprawled out - of course she's crawling to get closer to the volunteers and to hopefully get some treats. She also loves to flop over on her back for belly rubs. She really is adorable! Butterscotch will need a traditional fence in her new home, but she'd love to have another canine friend to play with and lay with! If you think you'd like this sweetheart in your home please fill out an application.

I mean, could she BE CUTER!!?! Go check out Butterscotch and all the other dogs at Main Line Animal Rescue, just click HERE

Mr. Pit and I are off to Las Vegas on Sunday and our favorite dog-sitter A is staying with Lil' Pup until we get back on Wednesday night. This is our last trip pre Little Pit, so we're going to eat and relax as much as we possibly can.

I promise pictures when we get back :)

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

xoxo Mrs. Pit

Furry Friday!

Meet Antonio!

Holy Chihuahua, is this one cute or what? I mean, puppies are ALWAYS cute, but Chihuahua puppies are just good enough to make me want to jump through my computer screen and put him in my pocket!

I am not sure if Lil' Pup would find Antonio more of an appetizer or a friend, but regardless, he's pretty darn cute!! You'd have to help this little guy navigate all the snow we're supposed to get this weekend, even 6" of snow would be too tall for him, but what a great companion for the spring! He doesn't have an official write up on the site yet, but I think his picture says it all!

Speaking of snow, the forecast for the Philadelphia area is right on the borderline of 6-12" and 12"+, so we'll just have to see when the snow starts falling and how much accumulation we actually get. I managed to be the busiest person EVER last night and picked my mom up from the airport, went home, let Lil' Pup out, went back out for a haircut, went to Acme for French Toast supplies (I have been craving this for breakfast for about a week now, so Saturday it's ON!) and made it back to the house in time to watch the Deep End and Grey's...phew!

So, now the only thing on my schedule for Saturday is a dress fitting at Priscilla of Boston for my BFF C's wedding and I told them I would come down for it as long as they were open, so we'll see how bad the roads are!

I hope everyone has a great weekend and doesn't get snowed in if you don't want to be!

As always, click HERE to check out all the other animals at Main Line Animal Rescue, and don't forget to become a fan of theirs on Facebook!

Big Plans

Morning!
So, tonight Mr. Pit and I have mid-week plans for the first time in a LONG time, and I am really excited for the evening.

First, we are eating at The Palm, and I'm hoping there is enough time (and room in my belly) for a piece of chocolate cake at the end of the meal before the show. I have been studying the menu (even though we've eaten here a ton of times before) but I want to make sure I get everything I want, as we rarely make it into the city anymore!

Then it's off to Rain-The Beatles Experience at the Academy of Music. It's only in town for a week and since I bought the tickets SO long ago it feels almost like a free show! (Though, the visa bill would indicate otherwise, oh well!)

ALSO, in bigger news...I found out that Main Line Animal Rescue has a fan site on Facebook. I urge EVERYONE, whether you are a PA resident or not to join the site and let them know you appreciate and support their efforts to rescue animals of all kinds. Just click HERE and it will get you right to it! You can also see the picture of Lil' Pup I just posted yesterday!

I hope everyone has great days!

Furry Friday- Sort of...

*UPDATE* I learned how to put a photo in via apple...Thanks JAK!!!

Hi guys!
Well, I am doing exactly what I wanted to be when I planned this trip ages ago, namely, sitting inside, by a warm fire, with wi-fi and lots of fun crafting projects, while Mr. Pit endures 5 degree temperatures to ski Okemo. Alas, I think he'll be in shortly for some warming up!

I would do a Furry Friday post, but since I'm on my MacBook, I don't know how to get pictures uploaded like I do on my PC at work. If anyone knows an easy solution, please let me know! I know I've had the computer for almost 8 months now and the only thing I can do is get on the internet and play with iTunes...oops!

But, even if I can't post a picture, I can still tell you about Brandy! Brandy is a Cocker Spaniel at Main Line Animal Rescue and he is a favorite of all the staffers at MLAR.
Click HERE to go to Brandy's page! This is her write up...

Ok - apologies to the band Looking Glass, but MLAR couldn't resist: The sailors say "Brandy, you're a fine girl" (you're a fine girl) If you're looking for loyal, obedient, affectionate, and adorable.... then Brandy is your match. You won't need to give her a silver chain for around her neck, MLAR provides a beautiful red premier-brand martingale collar and name tag. "What a good dog you would be" (such a fine girl) MLAR's Brandy may not serve you whisky or wine, but she will be your walking partner OR your napping partner...take your pick! "Yeah your eyes could steal a sailor from the sea"... Take one look at her sweet brown eyes and you just might find your new best friend!

Can you resist that write up? I know there's no picture, but just imagine a cute as a button Cocker Spaniel and Brandy is your girl!

Anyways, Mr. Pit and I had a great time at the Okemo Inn last night, if you ever find yourself in Central Vermont and need a place to stay, go here! It was perfect and quaint, really close to town, and the homemade breakfast was perfection!

We are loving our stay up here so far, and I can't wait until Little Pit is old enough to ski so we can put them in ski school and then they can ski with us :)

Hope all is well with everyone and you all have great weekends!

Oh, and a HUGE shout out to A who is dog sitting Lil' Pup this weekend and to my brother Z, who is walking him during the day to give him a break. You guys are AWESOME!!

Talk to you all soon!
xoxo Mrs. Pit

Furry Friday!

Meet Bob! I chose Bob today because today's date is a palindrome, and I love those :)
See 01-22-10, cool huh? So, Bob is also a palindrome, and I just thought it fit. PLUS, he's pretty darn cute right?!

Here is his write up from the staff at MLAR, go check him out this weekend!!

Ever hear of a movie called "What About Bob"? No one in the film knows what to do with this guy named Bob. He is a bit peculiar but a nice enough fellow; never hurt anyone, and often makes the other characters laugh. So what could you do about MLAR Bob? He is a natural clown with a personality that would make Bill Murray (he plays Bob in the movie) proud. And hey, don't let his "natural highlights" fool you, this sweet guy has plenty of energy . Even if the big directors have never been able to leash Hollywood actors the way they'd prefer, the volunteers concur MLAR Bob is great for a leash walk. Added bonus: MLAR Bob is so cool he's already house trained. No therapy required.

I know it doesn't seem like a big deal that he is house trained, but I can't TELL you how awesome it was when we brought Lil' Pup home and didn't have to worry about him messing anything in our house up. He has NEVER soiled in the house, even when he was sick last year, and he's never eaten anything he wasn't supposed to either, so shoes and belts and bags are all safe!! I am sure Bob is the same way, and it's worth it's weight in gold for a dog to be out of their puppy stage!!

Go check out Bob this weekend, it's a perfect weekend for it, and he'll be your new best friend by the time the playoffs come on TV Sunday at 3!!

Mr. Pit has a whole bunch of school work to do this weekend, but we have a fun party to attend Saturday night and I have 2 friends coming over for lunch on Sunday so I'm really looking forward to that!

Next week is a short week for me(only 3 days!)as we head up to Okemo for 4 days on Thursday morning :)

So while Mr.Pit is doing this:
I'll be doing this: Believe me, if I didn't have Little Pit in my belly I'd be right out there with him, but since skiing is a no-no while you're pregnant, especially as far along as I am, I am going to take advantage of Okemo's wi-fi network in their lodge and catch up on my needlepointing. I have an entire project I haven't even started yet!

Hope everyone has great weekends!

xoxo Mrs. Pit

Furry Friday!

This Furry Friday is a special one, because Mr. Pit himself picked out the pup of the week, Fudge.

Meet Fudge! His description is great, and as I've said of a lot of dogs from this facility, if Lil' Pup didn't have to be an only child, Fudge would probably live with us!!
Here is his description from the site, doesn't he sound fun!!!

As always, check out Main Line Animal Rescue's site for all sort of animals that desperately need homes. We're supposed to get a storm in the area on Sunday so take tomorrow to go get an animal that really needs you!!

Main Line Animal Rescue

Mr. Pit and I are off to Kennett Square tomorrow to go check out Talula's Market ( Talula's Table is the famous impossible to get reservation opened by the former owners of Django, my favorite restaurant from our days in Old City). The attached market is famous for it's cheese selection as well as it's carry-out case- I hear you can even get their famous Goat Cheese Gnocchi, yum!!! Doesn't it look delicious?!

Then we both have Monday off so we're having more contractors come in to do some pricing on the work we want done- not that I don't want to do it with the first guy, I just know that from being in construction you should never make a decision without at least 3 sets of pricing for every project. It helps keep everybody honest, and gives you a good idea of what the center line is for your project. Always, always tell contractors that you are getting more than just them to price something, otherwise they'll take full advantage of your naivete and add in lots of extra's for no reason. If you are ever doing any work to your house and want advice on contractors, insurance, codes...anything, email me! I've been doing this for almost 10 years now, and I am constantly advising family and friends on the how-to's of home improvements by contractors. I don't want anyone spending unnecessary money!!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Furry Friday!!

Welcome back to Furry Friday 2010!!!
I mean, do I really even need words for this one? How CUTE is he?? This is Richie and he just turned 1 in December. He is a German Shepard/Basset Hound mix and might just be the cutest thing (besides Lil' Pup of course) I've ever seen :)

As always, check out Main Line Animal Rescue for tons of available dogs and cats and other animals that are in desperate need of adoption. Believe me, they need you more than you could ever know, and isn't one of your New Years resolutions to be more giving? More selfless? Then adopt an animal, it's a win/win for everyone!!

On the home front news, we are going up to Bucks County tomorrow to look at and perhaps purchase the dresser and changing table set from the Craigslist listing and I couldn't be more excited. We have to buy the crib also, but I'm thinking that I might just give it to my parents to use in their house, that way we won't have to lug a pack n' play over there if we want to sleep over. Brilliant huh? Plus, the price is just SO right for the whole thing that it's worth purchasing the crib even if we don't use it in our own house.

Then I'm headed out to the outlets on 422 with my mom to return some Christmas gifts gone awry (my brother says his sweater is too itchy, and my moms sweater is too small) but I love shopping so I'm the last to complain!

Then we may or may not have people over for the Eagles game on Saturday night, they played so poorly last Sunday it makes me nervous to even be near a TV with the game on, but hopefully they got that out of their system and they'll kick some butt down in Dallas.

I hope you have some great plans for the weekend!

Happy Friday!!

Furry Friday!

Hi all! Meet Lenny!

I have absolutely NO words, well, some, but not a lot for this dog. First, his name is Lenny. For whatever reason that name on THIS dog makes me laugh out loud. Second, he is a Pomeranian, and I think they are SO funny looking. I want to get one just so I can laugh at it everyday. That hair, those eyes, it's really just too much.

What I do know about Lenny is that he is only 4 months old! And, he desperately needs a home for the holidays...how cute would it be to see THIS little face pop out of a Christmas box!? As always, check him out at Main Line Animal Rescue !

Mr. Pit don't have a lot going on this weekend asides from a few Christmas parties and Lil' Pup has another lesson on manners tomorrow at 11. Hopefully the snow will cooperate and allow us to drive out to Malvern for it, but if it doesn't there is NO way I am getting in the car with a bunch of other nut brains out on the road.

In Little Pit news, my email from Babycenter.com today tells me that the baby is now 3/4 of a pound and 10.5" long...and they compared that to a large carrot, ha! I have another appointment on Tuesday to check heartbeat and all that good stuff and to tell you the truth I don't really know what the next milestone is...30 weeks maybe? All I care about is a healthy beating heart and safe travels for the two of us this winter.

Hope you all have great weekends!

Furry Friday!

Hi all!

Meet Dynasty! I think I may have featured her before, but I got a special request to feature her again, so here she is!

She is QUITE the looker, and this lab/boxer mix is absolutely a fan favorite for the volunteers over at Main Line Animal Rescue.

Her write up is quick and to the point:
"Dynasty came to us after some unfortunate events left her owner homeless. If you remember the night time soap, "Dynasty" then you know this Dynasty would make Blake Carrington proud. This beaut of a Lab/Boxer Mix is a class-act. And she's waiting patiently for a home of her own."

She is fully house trained, walks fabulously on a leash and knows lots of tricks to keep everyone entertained.

Don't you want to take her home right this minute, I sure do!

Onto some personal stuff, our 20 week ultrasound went GREAT today! We got to see Little Pit for about 40 minutes and all the measurements and anatomy were right where they should be. We saw all 4 chambers of the heart, all 10 fingers and toes, plus a cute little nose that I swear came from me :) We of course did not find out the gender and the tech was great to not even go near the area to tempt us. We are SO pleased with the outcome so far, and we're officially half way there! 20 more weeks and the Littlest Pit will be here!

I am working tomorrow (our jobsite rotates Saturday work and this weekend is mine) but then Sunday we have absolutely NOTHING planned and I couldn't be happier. I want to sleep, eat and get the rest of the Christmas cards out. I got about half way through the other day, so if you haven't received one from us, it's on it's way, I promise!

I hope everyone has a great weekend, sorry for the late post!

Furry Friday!

Hi all! Meet Arden!

Arden is a female yellow lab who really needs a home this year! It's ALL she wants for Christmas, and look at that face! I mean, how could you NOT want to wake up to this cute pup on Christmas morning?!

I don't have Arden's back story, but most likely she came from a breeding facility and was rescued by Bill Smith and his pack of angels at Main Line Animal Rescue. Whatever her back story is though, she needs a home. ALL the dogs at this rescue need homes, and I am just trying to be one little voice to get their story out there. Lil' Pup came from this rescue and I would not be the same person I am today if I hadn't seen and heard his story and took him home with us. He has been one of the best things to happen to us in our lives and I want to find homes for all the other dogs there because they are great dogs!

Anyways, we're off to buy our Christmas tree tomorrow, and I'm hoping our Christmas cards come soon because I am behind the 8 ball to send them out this year! Saturday is nice and busy and Sunday is a whole lot of nothing that I am very much looking forward to. I have to buy a few more presents for people, so hopefully I can find what I want to find and be done early :)

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Furry Friday!

Welcome to Furry Friday! Meet Bosley!!
Bosley is a handsome 'mini' mastiff and is currently being fostered by a local family, but I think it's your turn to take him home. I mean, look at that face!!

Here's his write up from MLAR:

Meet Bosley!! He is a gorgeous Dogue De Bordeaux. He is smaller than your typical French Mastiff, a mini mastiff! Great temperament comes with this boy, he plays well with humans (adults and children), in addition to his doggy friends. He will make a perfect companion for almost anyone! This well mannered, housebroken boy is currently living in a foster home where he enjoys his daily walks and just hanging out with his foster family. Please schedule to come meet this sweet handsome boy! For additional information and application, please contact Peg Benoit at Timber Ridge Rescue: pegbenoit@yahoo.com

Doesn't he sound fabulous!?

As always, you can visit Main Line Animal Rescue by clicking HERE or just google PETFINDER to find local animals who need homes in your area.

Have a great weekend!

Furry Friday!

Welcome to Furry Friday! Meet Homer!!

Homer is a 6 year old Mastiff who really needs a home. Totally house trained, walked great on a leash, and so handsome!! His story from Main Line Animal Rescue is below, take a look and take this guy home...what a great early Thanksgiving present to yourself!!
Well, I was a mess when I arrived at Main Line Animal Rescue, no hair from years of bad infection, funny looking moles and just about the gruesomest dog you ever saw. Now I am a new man and ready for a new home. Handsome is just one of the words the volunteers use to describe me, and sweet and gentle and loving. I went from being an "untouchable" to one of the hot new dogs to walk and love....and they love me, they really love me!!! Now I'll just wait here and play with my new friends until you come and discover that I am a real dreamboy. Fully housetrained, easy to walk and won't give you a bit of trouble! I am healthy, happy and move in ready!

Doesn't he sound like a doll? I tell ya, if I lived on a 100 acre farm, ALL of these pups would come home with me!!

Mr. Pit and I are off to Washington, DC this weekend. I am going down for a bridal shower and bachelorette party and Mr. Pit is going to see a bunch of college friends. Then we're all going to the Redskins/Bronco's game on Sunday and taking Monday off to recover.

And then next week is the Lilly Sale! Since I already got my Hayward tunic I am really only on the search for the Saemus dress in my size, and maybe some things for Baby Pit...however, since we don't know if Baby Pit is a boy or a girl, I might have to buy some of everything! I can't expect my child to be born without a Lilly wardrobe now can I? Ha...don't worry, I am really only looking for a cute onesie or something, no dresses or anything older than a 6 month size, their kids stuff is just SO darn cute!!
