The good, the bad...and the bookcase

The good:
The weather here was SPECTACULAR all weekend. It ALMOST makes up for the horrendous amounts of snow we've gotten in the last two months. It was sunny, warm when you stood in the sun and the snow melt was significant so I was thrilled.
I had a really fun lunch AND dinner with my friend M and that totally saved my Saturday from being boring and lame. During same lunch and dinner I found 2 fabulous parking spots which cost me the total of 25 cents for the afternoon and evening...and in the little tiny town that we are in this was cause for MAJOR celebration!
I went to my parents for dinner last night and my brother and I made hamburgers from scratch and they were delicious. Good grilling T, seriously, SO GOOD.
The bad:
Mr. Pit is STILL not home. That's right folks, he was supposed to get in yesterday at 11am, but due to flooding in Rio the crew couldn't make it to the plane and timed out before they got there, then when they finally left they couldn't make any connections in Miami yesterday. However, he did take off this morning and is supposed to land at 11am.
This delay caused me to do nothing but shop yesterday...BUT...I only spent $30 mostly because everything else I was looking for eluded me.
The Bookcase:
My Mom and I ended up finding the PERFECT bookcase for Little Pit's room. I had been scouring the Pottery Barn Kids catalog for AGES and had seen this bookcase but didn't consider it because of it's size...but then I saw it in person and realized it would be perfect. Even more perfect than that was that they had it IN STOCK so I didn't have to pay shipping. PLUS, Mom decided it was her gift from her and my Dad, so I had to pay a whole lot of nothing, thanks Mom!

So this is it...cute right?!



And we got white baskets with green and white polka dot liners...I can't wait to put it all together next weekend!!

Oh yeah, and thats our plan for this coming weekend...Saturday we're going to take the room apart (and by 'we' I mean Mr. Pit and my brother) and move everything out and then the rug cleaning people are coming by Saturday afternoon to clean every rug in the house, yippee! Then Sunday we're going to put the room together (and again, by 'we' I mean Mr. Pit and my other brother who's very handy) and they will put together the crib, glider and bookcase, and lug the dresser/changing table upstairs and put everything where it belongs! And, don't worry, there will be before and afters taken I promise :)

That's it for the weekend, I am practically bouncing out of my seat for Mr. Pit to get home, 10 days is the longest we've gone without seeing each other since we were married (I know, I'm a big baby, you don't have to tell me) so I can't wait to see him. Also trying to figure out if it's worth a vacation day to go pick him up from the airport or try to work all day and leave a little early...we'll see.

Furry Friday!

Morning all! Meet Sissy! Sissy is a female lab mix who was rescued from the streets and brought to MLAR for recuperation. She is doing really well per her write up, and desperately wants a home so she can improve even more! Plus, she's only about 2 years old, which makes her even more appealing if you want a dog that's already housebroken...and who doesn't?

Here is her write up:

Sissy is a gentle lab mix who was rescued from the streets of Philadelphia. When she first came to us she was very skinny and very scared - she didn't have an easy life you could tell. But thanks to the patience of the volunteers and staff, she has come out of her shell already and learned to trust humans again. She now walks proudly around the farm with her head held high and her tail up. It was a wonderful transformation to watch and to see how resilient dogs truly are. She is a young girl, maybe 2 years old, and when she gets in the field you realize her age since she runs SO fast and all over the fields. She is such fun to watch! Sorry for not posting more this week, my schedule has been a bit off with Mr. Pit out of the country, but he gets back Sunday morning and I can't wait to go pick him up at the airport.

Today I actually have a half day so I can go home and meet the insurance adjuster since we had a leak in our roof/ceiling/window area during the last storm and we need to get it repaired before the big spring rain storms come in. Then tomorrow I plan on heading out to the outlets in Lancaster to see if I can find a white bookcase for Little Pit's room. It's amazing how such a little piece of furniture can be so expensive and elusive! But, I am determined to find one that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and it still cute enough to hold all the fun picture books we got!

Ridiculous want of the day...

I want these...yes, two of them, to go above our bed.


A few things about these lovely wings...

1. I can't afford these. Not even one. But they are beautiful anyway. ($675 each!)
2. I love angels, and I love the notion of having wings. These are by far the best thing I've ever seen in the PB catalog.
3. Our bedroom isn't even big enough for these to hang on the wall, any wall! Our house isn't even big enough, not even the living room!
4. Anyone wanna buy me one or both for Christmas anyway?!

Wednesday Wants

Hi all, so I figured today since there wasn't much on the agenda, I'd show you a few things I've been lusting after lately.

First and foremost, you KNOW my love of Bungalow and all things Scout. Their bags come in handy in every situation known to man, and I am the proud owner of quite a few products.

THESE however, are new and I need them. You see, Christmas presents get tricky, especially with friends, and how much to you spend, and blah blah blah. Well, this cute wine tote saves the day. We stick in a bottle of our favorite red "Montepulciano de Abruzzi" and off we go to the party! So simple, so chic!


Even the name is fabulous! A spirit liftah it is :)

Secondly, this duvet set from Pottery Barn. It's called the Leslie and it's brand new. Mr. Pit knows about my slight obsession with bedding- we have LOTS of sheets and quilt options, but I love them and I think it can make or break the room...how adorable is this?! Nice and bright and perfect for those dreary winter days to come.
Now all we have to do is to get Lil' Pup from jumping up on our bed to wake us up in the morning and then we can have a dog hair-free bed, horray! (though, I kind of like the exuberant Pitty greeting...he is SO excited to see us everyday, how many people do you know that react like that just from you waking up?!)

WAY ahead of myself

I know I'm way ahead of myself...but since we get the Pottery Barn Catalog, we get the Pottery Barn KIDS catalog...and I couldn't help but go through it and find that they now have Peter Rabbit bedding.

It's like they were listening to my little inside voice WISHING that someone would design this and I wouldn't have to pay hundreds of dollars to get this stuff from England (apparently they carry it at Harrod's exclusively).

So, while I am NOT pregnant yet, I really really want to buy this just in case they sell out or don't make it by the time I am...is that crazy...YES. Would I do it anyway...of course. But, Mr. Pit won't let me. Darn logic.

Oh, and I want a white crib, not a dark brown and our walls will be yellow not white and green...but hello, super cute!

This is when being a Virgo and planning EVERYTHING gets tough!!

AND I want this...but instead of the animals in the middle I want the name of our baby just like in the catalog (craft store, here I come!)

And don't worry, I was exactly like this for our wedding too (I had collected torn out pages of wedding magazines for YEARS) so Mr. Pit knows this is coming and he smiles and says 'whatever you want dear' like a good husband should. (Though this still doesn't green light me for buying anything, it does leave me hopeful that he won't object TOO much when the appropriate time comes either :)

Pottery Barn Outlet- WIN

Hi all,
the weekend turned out better than I had hoped and Mom and I came home successful from the Pottery Barn Outlet.

This is our new headboard. It was one of the few queen sized headboards or beds at the outlet (They had a ton of kings and california kings, so if you need one, go! They are insanely discounted!) and I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. It is not white (as I had hoped to originally get) but I think the dark mahogany stain will look great with our baby blue walls and navy blue summer blanket.

It was also discounted from $499 to $240, so it was a win all around!

We did run into kind of a pickle when it came to getting it home, as we drove my Moms Jeep Grand Cherokee, which is big, but not fit-a-headboard-in-the-back big...so we had to get it up and on top of the car. Little did we know that Pottery Barn has a policy of NOT putting things in or on your car for you for liability purposes...so Mom and I were stuck in the back loading dock area barely able to lift the headboard on our own, much less get it on top of the car. Luckily, the super nice PB manager saw our struggle and told us she would "close the door and her eyes" and if her loading dock guy happened to help us while she wasn't out there, there was nothing she could do. So, awesomely, she shut the door, he hoisted the bed onto the car and we were off. We drove home slowly (we had it all strapped down with bungee cords, but that didn't make me feel anymore comfortable about this hulking thing on our roof) and luckily Mr. Pit and I were able to get it down off the car with no problems and up to our guest bedroom.

The second part of our adventure is getting a bed frame, but I am planning on checking Craig's List this morning for any cheap ones, then if that doesn't work I will order the one from the PB website (so at least we are guaranteed it will fit). So, we should have the mattress and box spring up off the floor by the end of the week, and I can't wait to sleep on our new bed!

Otherwise, we didn't end up seeing a movie on Saturday, we went to Benihana for dinner and then came home to watch Season 2 of Weeds that came from Netflix. I freaking love that show.

Some fun stuff and not so fun stuff on tap this week, fun is dinner with my friend E on Tuesday and the Lilly Sale as well as the Father/Daughter golf tournament on Sunday, but not so fun is a funeral on Thursday. So, we'll get through this week one day at a time, as it's all we can do.

I have to work tomorrow from 6am-3pm and then we have no plans for tomorrow night, and then Sunday I am hoping to make a trip to Lancaster with my Mom for a gander at the Pottery Barn outlet, but I'll keep you informed, even at half price their beds are really expensive!

A snowy start

Morning Pit Fans!
It's been a crazy start to 2009, but I couldn't be happier to be back on the scene. One big change is the new background, and I'm really loving the preppy sensibility that is all things argyle, and most importantly, pink and green!

Work has been good thus far in 2009 and I have also survived the two rounds of layoffs which were a total let down when they happened. A lot of good workers got cut because of the straining economy and the lack of construction work, and I am hoping that when things turn around they can all move on to bigger and better things. I however, have been busier than ever with competitive bids, which is good for me and the company, so all seems to be well there.

On the home front all is wonderful. Lil' Pup LOVED the snow this morning and was very excited that he got to be out on his leash today while we shoveled our driveway. I never thought we had a huge driveway until I had to shovel it this morning, and boy oh boy its bigger than I thought! But, I made it into work a scant 1.5 hours late and since hardly anyone is here in my department today, it all worked out perfectly.

On the economy front, Mr. Pit and I have most of our stuff together for our taxes, so we are really hoping that we get a refund this year instead of owing like we have the past two years!

I am also trying to really rein in the shopping but it is SO much easier said than done when you have companies like J. Crew and Pottery Barn constantly emailing you with offers and sales! I also found some really cute preppy blogs and websites that I am newly obsessed with.
My latest craving though, is for monogrammed melamine plates, bowls and serving trays...I mean, can you think of anything cuter?! I found super cute ones here and am trying to figure out how NOT to buy them for us (as we dont need anything more in any of our cupboards ever!) but am thinking of them as wedding presents. And, seeing as we have 5 weddings this year, yes, 5...I think I can get my craving out while buying for others, double win!!

Anyways, I gotta get back to the grind, but wanted to catch up and let you know I'll be with you regularly from now on!
